"The heft of the staff and the balance are good. The finish is very rough, seeming it was unfinished. Staffs need to be smooth to facilitate the rapid grip changes needed to position the staff to strike and to move effortlessly to block. The finish is too rough to make this work well. Care needs to be taken to either leave the staff unvarnished...or produce a finish smooth enough to be effective. As it is in the staff I received, it is an irritating distraction.
